The University Librarian will provide strategic direction and managerial support for all Library Services, as well as leading on the development and delivery of library services to the university community across teaching and research.

The post holder will deliver a high quality and cost effective service encompassing physical and virtual resources within a 24/7 delivery model. The Library Services provides support for scholarly communications, information literacy, and archives and records services.

The University’s needs are constantly evolving and part of the role is to ensure the university and the Registrar are kept aware of how the service needs to develop to meet the needs of its users. The ongoing development of the University’s professional services will require both structural and service-level changes within Library Services.

The successful applicant will have an under-graduate and post-graduate level qualification in Library or Information Services related discipline. They will also have experience in, and knowledge of the management of libraries in research intensive universities; and an understanding of the UK Higher Education system, its opportunities and challenges for the library service. The role requires someone with the vision to adopt suitable changes in order to improve service delivery, as well as exceptional communication skills as you will need to engage a broad range of stakeholders, including staff, academics and senior management beyond library services.
