Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for an Undergraduate Education Manager to be responsible for all aspects of the undergraduate student lifecycle from recruitment and admissions to graduation.  The post holder will support the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUGS) and the other academic and administrative staff in the management and delivery of the undergraduate programme.  They will also provide input in the processes and procedures related to the delivery of the undergraduate programme and related administration.

This is a key Departmental post, providing high quality education support to academic, senior administrative staff, and prospective students in liaison with Faculty and College education related offices.

This is full time open-ended appointment.

Duties and responsibilities

Managing the undergraduate recruitment and admissions process, is a key part of the role, including assessing applications and making recommendations to the Head of Department, managing recruitment and open days and providing advice to students, parents and teachers. 

Overseeing the Department’s Undergraduate examinations process is also a main responsibility including planning and production of examination timetables, involving liaising with senior academics and external examiners.

You will manage the processes and procedures for monitoring student progress and the provision of pastoral care, providing a point of contact for all students who may wish to discuss problems or difficulties, in a safe and welcoming environment.

You will have direct line-management responsibility for two members of staff, requiring the provision of management support and guidance, conducting annual appraisals and identifying training and development needs.

Essential requirements

You will have a degree or equivalent qualification and experience plus demonstrable administrative experience in a Higher Education environment.

You will also have demonstrable administrative experience of the admissions process in Higher Education together with experience of managing the examinations processes, field trips and budgets.

A high level of experience and capability in the use of MS Office is essential, as well as good working knowledge of student related systems and a sound knowledge and understanding of student administrative systems and Registry procedures.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with confidential matters and handle confidential information with complete discretion and tact.

The ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff and students, working as part of a team is also vital, together with excellent organisational and time management skills.
