The position is full-time and is anticipated to start on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible afterwards and will be of restricted duration until 31/12/2024.
Location of employment: Aarhus University, Centre for Urban Network Evolutions (UrbNet), Campus Moesgaard, Denmark.Research context The post.doc. will become part of the research task’ The Past Social Networks Project: The very first open online repository for network data of ancient social relationships ‘, headed by Principal Investigator Associate Professor Tom Brughmans and funded by the Carlsberg Foundation. The Past Social Networks Project is an interdisciplinary project that draws on classical archaeology, network science, history and computer technology. How do present-day social media networks vary from those in the past, and how have these structures changed over centuries? The key to these important questions lies with historical and historic network research study, using the material and textual sources that document interactions between previous individuals. However addressing such concerns is currently hampered by a variety of obstacles: past social media network data are rarely being made open access and a methodological pipeline for comparative studies of centuries-long modification in previous social networks is missing out on. The Past Social Networks Project intends to deal with these challenges. The position We are searching for an intellectually versatile and dedicated researcher with a background in digital humanities, computer technology, archaeology, classics, ancient history, or
classical archaeology, ideally with an expertise in network science or data management, and with strong interests in computational methods in the humanities. The effective applicant and the PI will share obligation for the task’s work package worrying the advancement of a computational modelling structure for centuries-long changes of social media networks, and unpredictability
quantification of fragmentary historical and historical sources. This work package will establish computational designs notified by empirical previous social network information, that describes past social media networks and explores how they evolve over long time periods. It likewise worries the application to empirical past social networks of statistical methods to represent uncertainties and unknowns in the data, and the level of sensitivity of data analysis results on these unpredictabilities. The applicant will examine literature and computer system code on these designs and analytical techniques. They will design computational simulation experiments to explore the plausibility of theories of the long-term evolution of human socials media. This work will be supervised by the PI and Prof. Tim Evans( Complexity Science, Imperial College London ). She/he is expected to collaborate on disciplinary and interdisciplinary publications with job team members on the topic past social media networks. The effective applicant requires excellent social and communication abilities in order to participate in cross-disciplinary cooperation with job staff member. Understanding exchange The successful candidate will be anticipated to exchange understanding with numerous sectors of society and to contribute actively to public debate in locations related to the position Qualifications Applicants should hold a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications in digital humanities, computer technology, archaeology, intricacy science, ancient history, classical archaeology, history, geography, network science, or similar subject fields.
