Job Summary
To undertake teaching activities to support the work of the Centre for Environmental Policy. You will be responsible for convening, teaching and learning activities in the MSc in Conservation Science and Practice. Our long-running course provides the highest standard of knowledge and skills development for environmental and sustainability specialists. Through the course students acquire a diverse range of discipline-specific problem-solving frameworks for tackling contemporary conservation issues. A major emphasis of the interdisciplinary nature of conservation problems and on diverse tools available for understanding and solving complex issues.
The course is delivered in intensive in-person and online modes and has modules covering the historical and contemporary approaches to conservation science and policy, a large focus on tools and frameworks aimed at improving conservation decisions, case studies from around the world, and covers both quantitative and qualitative sciences.
The position is part part-time working (up to 0.8FTE). We are open to hiring one or two candidates for the role so please apply if you are looking for a smaller part-time role. You should specify your preference as part of your personal statement.
Duties and responsibilities
- To teach as a member of a teaching team within an established programme of study
- To co-convene the MSc in Conservation Science and Practice course
- To give lectures and seminars to Master’s students on the MSc Conservation Science and Practice course
- To develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance where appropriate
- Undertake a programme of training to develop expertise in education as necessary e.g. PG Certificate in University Learning and Teaching or equivalent.
- Contribute to departmental publications (for example course guides, websites, newsletters etc.) when requested.
- To reflect on teaching practice and delivery, and the development of personal teaching and learning skills generally.
Essential requirements
- A Masters’ degree (or equivalent) and interest in a topic related to Conservation Science
- Recent experience in teaching in a higher education institution
- Proven ability and achievements in a broad range of teaching
- A specialist knowledge in the relevant discipline and of teaching methods and techniques within own area
- Familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess teaching
- A demonstrable ability to teach effectively at MSc level in a variety of teaching situations
