The Placements Team Lead plays a key role within Employability Services in ensuring St Mary’s students have a positive experience accessing experiential learning and developing their skills and confidence in the workplace. As the recently launched Placement Year gains momentum, we are seeking someone with a desire to have an impact on student experience. We are passionate about facilitating students to develop their knowledge, skills and attributes to gain a good graduate job and manage their career longer term.
Placements are a key part of our offering, and we are looking for someone with a strong commitment to student success to manage our processes for placements, lead a team of Placement Officers, and create opportunities to innovate and improve our placement offer.
The Student Placement Lead will oversee and manage the current placement provision for the long-established Workplace Learning modules (short-term placements) and be responsible for the implementation of the Placement Year.
The Placements Lead will support the Placements Officers to develop new opportunities for the different types of placements, building on established partnerships with academic teams, students and placement providers to ensure a high-quality service is delivered.
We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of the work placement process and the value of placements for students, ideally with experience in project management. A good understanding of the higher education employability landscape and the needs and experiences of students is key, as is experience of working successfully as part of a professional, busy, multi-functioning team. As the role involves managing a team of three placements officers, we’d ideally like candidates to have line management experience.
We’re looking for candidates who are confident and accurate in all forms of communication, and comfortable with data and spreadsheets. We are a multipart team in employability services, so a team player is vital, with an ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders across the university.
We are also looking for candidates who are:
– willing and able to acquire new skills and knowledge
– flexible and responsive to changing demands and to meet deadlines
– fully committed to inclusive practices, and with an excellent understanding of good practice with respect to diversity and inclusion
For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Janie Angell, Head of Employability Services, [email protected]
