If you have experience in sports ground and general grounds maintenance skills this position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills.

As our Senior Sports Grounds Operative, you will play a key role ensuring an efficient site and facilities service at the sports ground and pavilion at Wimbledon High School; one of the leading schools in the UK.

We have impressive grounds for sport, including an all-weather and flood-lit surface used for Athletics, Cricket, and Hockey alongside our floodlit Netball/Tennis courts. You will ensure the security of the sports ground and pavilion. General tasks will include setting up, inspecting, and maintaining playing surfaces to the highest standard.

Other duties will include chemical spraying, weed picking, aeriation, irrigations, devoting, sand spreading, hedge trimming, jet washing, salting, leaf blowing, gutter clearing, pitch testing and line marking.

You will also assist with the school’s sporting events, such as assembling and dismantling equipment as well as be responsible for the maintenance of all ground’s maintenance equipment.

About You:

You will have relevant skills and experience in the maintenance, inspection and line marking of sports pitches and grounds.

You will have hands-on experience with general repairs (painting, carpentry, plumbing etc.).

This is a manual role, and you must be able to complete general manual handling tasks including lifting, moving, and carrying.

You will also have experience of supervising staff, excellent organisational skills, and the willingness to learn new skills.

You will have previous experience of working with and managing external contractors, alongside a good knowledge and understanding of reactive, routine, and planned maintenance.

You will have a good knowledge, understanding and experience of relevant Health and Safety legislation and requirements.

You will have a good knowledge and understanding of fire safety, security, and emergency procedures.

You will have relevant Health and Safety training, such as IOSH or a willingness to work towards this. 

You will have a willingness to undertake any additional relevant training offered to develop and enhance your progression within your role and within the Estates team.
