
We are seeking a Senior Research Technician to join the UCL IQPath Experimental Histology facility, which provides the entire workflow of Pathology analysis, starting from tissue cut-off, embedding, processing, sectioning, and staining for tinctorial and immunohistochemical stains. You will be responsible for the overall management and leadership of the unit, liaising directly with customers (research scientists requiring histopathology services and image analysis) to understand, interpret, and analyse their needs, and arranging collaborations with Principal Investigators in the Department where appropriate. Duties involve managing two technical staff (histologists).
The post is available from 20 June 2022 as maternity cover and is available until 14 May 2023/the return of the substantive post holder, whichever is sooner.
Starting salary on UCL Grade 7, which ranges from £36,770 – £44,388 per annum including London Allowance. You’ll have an Honours degree (minimum 2:1) in science or a related discipline and experience of working in a diagnostic and/or research histology environment. Excellent theoretical and working knowledge to establish, optimise, troubleshoot, and carry out specialist staining is essential. You’ll also have the ability to work to tight deadlines within a pressurised environment, good interpersonal skills, and analytical skills to understand and interpret histological patterns, immunostainings and digital slide files.
