
Salary: Senior Lecturer: £66,130 – £68,987 per annum; Minimum starting salary for a Reader £71,448 per annum and for Professor minimum starting salary is £81,791 per annum

We are seeking an outstanding academic leader in Medical Statistics and Clinical Trials to lead the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit (ICTU) statistics team as Head of Statistics. You will have an established reputation in trials methods research and excellent research record in the design and conduct of clinical trials. You will also have good experience with leading a team and providing supervision and mentorship to statisticians and clinical academics. You will also be a member of academic staff in the School of Public Health and will carry out research and teaching activities appropriate to the level of appointment.
You will be responsible for developing the strategic direction for the statistics group and play a key role in forming the strategic direction of ICTU as part of the executive team. You will work closely with the Deputy Head of Statistics to oversee trial development work and the delivery of trials in progress. ICTU’s recognised therapeutic areas currently include Cardiovascular, Child Health, Surgery & Cancer, Emergency & Critical Care, alongside a growing Digital Health theme. You will be encouraged to grow adaptive trials expertise across the statistics team and therapeutic areas.
ICTU works to bring together academic and trial management expertise, with the statistical and methodological group being a key component. Trial designs range across stages but are mostly focused on late phase confirmatory trials. A key role will be to manage the trial statistics team to provide high quality statistical advice and analysis for the design of clinical trials and development of applications for funding.
You will be responsible for a specialist trial portfolio in your preferred area and will develop a strong programme of collaborative applied research and personal research in clinical trials methodology.
Working with ICTU’s senior statisticians, you will be responsible for ensuring a continued trial funding pipeline and aim to expand ICTU’s expertise in adaptive trials. Working with the Operational and Database development teams you will have the opportunity to explore and develop a new team and processes to support ICTU capability to develop and conduct trials that use routinely collected data as a primary data source. You will also plan and oversee the funding decisions for the statistics team with the support of the Departmental Manager and ensure statistical regulatory rigor is adhered to with the support of the quality assurance manager.
Commensurate with the level of the appointment, you should have a national and/or international reputation in clinical trials research demonstrated through outstanding record in published research; be able to demonstrate track record of attracting research funding. You should also be willing to support investigators from a wide range of clinical and non-clinical disciplines in applications for grant funding for trials and related research. Holding a PhD in Statistics or related field or equivalent is also essential.
