About the Role
The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an inspirational teacher and educational leader to a Senior Lectureship in Sustainable Management. This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to the further development of the Department of Business and Society and to the development of our educational offer in Sustainable Management, in line with SBM’s values and mission. Experienced candidates with a strong university teaching record are encouraged to apply and we welcome hearing how you would best contribute to our sustainability activities, including the development of a capstone project for the MSc Managment. We define sustainability in its broader sense i.e., economic, environmental, and social sustainability in business and society. We value sustainability expertise in various fields of business and management including (but not limited to) entrepreneurship, innovation, strategy, CSR, organizational resilience, and global value chains. We also value the ability to analyze sustainability issues in the context of the Global North – Global South relationship. All applicants should have the ability to teach and supervise effectively across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Department of Business and Society in SBM. The successful candidate will be offered a teaching and scholarship contract.
About You
You will have a doctorate in a relevant subject, a teaching qualification and will be, or willing to become, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
You will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of scholarly practice as well as a commitment to cross-disciplinary learning and scholarship-based teaching. We are looking for someone with a keen interest and expertise in new methods of pedagogical engagement suited to our diverse cohorts of students. We also appreciate expertise in engaging large numbers of students and delivering successful pedagogy with large cohorts. And we value the ability to supervise graduate and postgraduate sustainability projects in partnership with external business partners and NGOs.
As a Senior Lecturer you will lead and deliver modules in the areas of Sustainable Management on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as providing supervision for dissertation projects within the Department of Business and Society. You will be contributing to the practitioner community and engaging with scholarly debate in the forms of blogs and teaching and learning conferences. You will be expected to take an active role in the Contemporary Live Project module. This is a module designed to equip MSc Managment students with methodological and analytical skills to undertake and complete the MSc Management capstone project. You will be expected to take leadership roles such as (but not limited to) Director/Codirector of the MSc Management.

About the School of Business and Management, and the Department of Business and Society
The School of Business and Management is one of the eight schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School has been undergoing a period of rapid growth, almost doubling our number of academic staff over the last five years and set to grow even further. We presently have 121 permanent academic staff and a large team of Teaching Fellows and TAs. We have over 2,000 undergraduate business studies students and, at the post-graduate level, approximately 1,000 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme of around 80 students.
SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good governance in the management of private, public and voluntary organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive School that takes a humanities and social science-led approach to our scholarship and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, with its traditional strengths as a site of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and politics.
The Department of Business and Society contributes to SBM through world leading teaching and research in the areas of global value chains (and the relationship between the Global North and the Global South), business ethics, CSR, public management and institutions, social entrepreneurship and social innovation (in the local and global contexts), organization theory, critical management, cultural and creative industries and business law. Our focus on the relationship between businesses, society, sustainability and social justice shapes the teaching and research environment of the Department of Business and Society. Department members are typically (but not exclusively) associated with the Research Centre on Labour, Sustainability and Global Production, the Public Management and Regulation Group and the Organisational Processes and Practices Research Group. As such, the Department examines business as a field of enquiry in its own right – an area to be subject to critical analysis in the broader context of the relationship between business and society. You will be expected to become part of the newly created Centre for Education and Scholarship Research in Economics, Finance and Business Management.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 1st January 2024 (or earlier). The starting salary will be Grade 7 in the range of £61,896- £69,114 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
