Senior Lecturer in Energy Economics

The Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics is looking for a Senior Lecturer in Energy Economics to work within the Centre for Applied Energy Economics and Policy Research. This role will focus on applied/quantitative modelling of the Queensland and Australian energy sectors. 

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Teaching quantitative courses, including modelling and forecasting uncertainty, developing hedging strategies and designing financial instruments.
  • Research in the field of energy economics, including publications in highly ranked journals, contributing to working papers for industry partners and developing grant applications.
  • Interaction with CAEEPR members and other energy stakeholders in Queensland and elsewhere.
  • Supervision of higher degree research students.
  • Contributing to CAEEPR seminars, workshops and events.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD in Economics/Finance or a related field.
  • Research in the field of energy economics, with a strong track record of publications in economics or energy journals and evidence of teaching excellence with undergraduate and higher degree research students.
  • A strong record of securing funding and collaboration with industry partners, including evidence of participation in external grant applications as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Experience/knowledge of modelling of wholesale energy markets (including the National Energy Market (NED)), analysis of the economics of renewables, and economic policy related to climate change.
  • Strong skills in quantitative models. For example, time-series econometrics, panel data econometrics, statistical inference, game theory, dynamic optimisation and models used in finance/financial economics.
  • An understanding of both academic and practice-based considerations within the energy economics field.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with government and industry stakeholders.
  • Knowledge, skills and leadership in teaching and curriculum/program development at the tertiary education level, and a proven ability in the administration of university courses and programs.

Candidates will be expected to teach across a breadth of courses within the Department. In addition to fulfilling teaching requirements, candidates must demonstrate success in attracting significant external research funding, evidence of a competitive research track record and national recognition consistent with discipline benchmarks, and proven experience in developing partnerships and collaborations with leading institutions and research end-users in their field. 

This is a continuing, full time position based at the Griffith University Nathan campus. 

The full time equivalent base salary will be Senior Lecturer, Level C $128,802 – $148,520 p/a + 17% superannuation.
