The Electron Microscopy Core Facility is seeking to hire a Scientist/Engineer to join our group. The EMCF offers sophisticated know-how and service in electron microscopy: from sample preparation to image analysis and for a large variety of biological samples ranging from macromolecules to tissues. The EMCF offers routine access to 2D and 3D ultrastructural characterization utilizing transmission electron microscopes (TEM), TEM tomography, focused ion beam SEM (FIBSEM), Serial block face SEM (SBEM), immuno-localization at the subcellular level, high-throughput TEM and correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM).

Your function

The task duties will include:

  • Supervision of the TEMs and computer system workstations in a multi-user environment (carry out use standards, handle the online booking system etc.).
  • Operation of the TEMs to gather three-dimensional datasets by electron tomography (single and double axis, montaged and serial tomograms) utilizing the SerialEM software bundle.
  • Interactions with microscopic lens maker’s service groups.
  • Running computational data analysis packages consisting of three-dimensional restoration of cell volumes and division approaches.
  • Training brand-new users and supplying support for the existing ones in using the TEMs and the various software packages readily available. This obligation includes one-on-one training sessions and the organization of workshops.
  • Developing imaging resources: enhance acquisition workflows (e.g. automation for TEM and CLEM), ensure a technology watch to bring the microscopes to a cutting-edge level (at the software and hardware levels).
  • Contribute to the updating of the center’s computer systems, software application plans and web server management.
  • Contribute to the mentor activities provided by the EMCF by arranging and running courses and workshops. Advancement of personalized software application tools for image processing of large 2D and 3D datasets.

You have

  • A PhD degree in Biology or Physics, or an engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge in TEM imaging and TEM tomography.
  • Computing and programming skills (e.g. Python, Java).
  • Experience with utilizing a high performance computing infrastructure.
  • Substantial experience with SerialEM and IMOD software bundles.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communications abilities and can operate in a team environment.
  • Multitasking capabilities and capacity to work autonomously.
  • Fluency in English.

At first, the effective prospect will get in-house training offered by the Facility staff. Extra top-level training in other EM Centres (both scholastic and commercial) will be provided to allow for an optimal career development inelectron microscopy techniques. The successful prospect ought to be able to work independently, be extremely well organized, dependable and take pleasure in operating in aninternational group within a highly collective atmosphere.

You may likewise have

  • Experience with volume SEM and volume EM image analysis.
