Transforming lives through excellent education

London Met is an extraordinary institution. Equity and social inclusion have always been our driving principles, and it’s what makes the University so unique. Our organisation is distinctive, both in its eclectic and diverse community of students and staff, and also for its historical role in serving some of London’s most deprived boroughs. Everything we do is underpinned by our philosophy that an individual should have the opportunity to transform their life through the power of education.

Equipping our students with the tools for their future is at the heart of our academic offering. We pride ourselves on providing our students with access to a wealth of opportunities and professions. Our graduates benefit personally, but also contribute their unique perspectives to society, culture, public service and the economy in all areas of London, the UK and around the world.

We are seeking a Safeguarding Manager to join our team. The role is responsible for the management of our Safeguarding and Prevent delivery and processes across the University. Under the direction of the Head of Student Services and Lead Safeguarding Officer, the post holder will take a lead role in the implementation and evaluation of the Safeguarding Policy and compliance with the Prevent order. They will ensure that the university meets its responsibilities and takes a lead role in the management of safeguarding cases, ensuring consistency of approach and compliance with university policy and procedures. The post holder will be required to adopt a pre-emptive and reactive approach to addressing safeguarding matters across the University. They will work on developing and implementing an institutional action plan which identifies the prevalent safeguarding themes across our university, identifying risks, and working collaboratively with colleagues to mitigate them. They will be responsible for supporting staff understanding and awareness of safeguarding issues and will hold regular best practice forums to ensure that staff have the opportunity to seek support and share best practice.

The post holder will have experience of working with multidisciplinary partners such as the Police and emergency services, local government authorities and social services, GPs and other practitioners. They will demonstrate a high-level understanding of safeguarding operations and legislation as well as issues in relation to safeguarding in the context of Higher Education. The post holder will act as a primary contact for Local Safeguarding Officers and be proactive in working across a range of Schools, Professional Service Departments, and the Students’ Union to ensure that the safeguarding policy and process is clear, adopted, and effective in its purpose.

This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
