Background
City, University of London is seeking to appoint an excellent researcher to work on the EPSRC-funded “Inclusive Data Visualization for Human-Centred Decision-Making” project.
The project will undertake studies to address a significant gap in knowledge about how people with communication difficulties use data visualization for decision-making and then use that knowledge to design and test new, inclusive visualizations.
Based in the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction Design (HCID), the candidate will work closely with colleagues with expertise in data visualization, aphasia and developmental language disorders.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake studies of how people with communication impairments experience and use data visualizations in personal decision-making, create data visualizations using tools such as JavaScript and Observable Plot, plan and run co-design workshops in collaboration with other project researchers, and undertake accessibility and usability evaluations.
The candidate will also write up results for publication, create and maintain the project web-site and work as a highly-collaborative team member.
Person Specification
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD, or equivalent research experience, in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or a related subject with a strong HCI component. The ideal candidate will have experience in co-design, in creating data visualizations using a range of packages, in accessibility, in designing and evaluating interactive systems and in qualitative and quantitative research methods. They will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
