Research Fellow in the Economics of Innovation and Industrial Policy
The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.
The UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) is a department within UCL and part of The Bartlett Faculty, known internationally for its radical thinking about space, design, and sustainability. The work of IIPP aims to create new economic thinking and practical tools to deliver public value. As part of expanding its Mission-Oriented Innovation Network (MOIN), the Institute is seeking a Research Fellow in Industrial Strategy and Innovation, with interests or experience in the Global South and specifically South Africa. Supported by the Rockefeller Foundation and a UKRI grant, the post will focus particularly on missions that drive a global green transition and deepening partnership-based hubs in the Global South, with a specific focus on South Africa and other African nations.
This as an exciting opportunity to join team of dedicated researchers and policy professionals led by the Institute’s Director, Professor Mariana Mazzucato. This appointment is available immediately until 30th November 2024 in the first instance.
The ideal candidate will be a recent or impending PhD graduate in economics or a related field (e.g., development policy) with training in economics. The researcher should have a strong background or experience in studying public finance, energy transitions, development economics or industrial strategy in the Global South. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong research profile and have effective communication skills (both oral and written), team-working skills, self-direction, and the capacity for doing independent work.
