The Financial Computing & Analytics Group, which has links with the Mathematics Department and the Statistics Department within UCL, with the London School of Economics, and with the London financial community at large.

For this call, we are seeking a researcher to support the Future Infrastructure for Retail Remittances (FIRE) project and related activities, wherein we ask, what is needed to create a new kind of cashless payment infrastructure that is efficient and robust while addressing the key limitations and concerns with existing cashless payment solutions? The researcher shall take a leading role in the development of a proof-of-concept implementation of our proposed system and shall work closely with a team consisting of financial services industry practitioners, professional designers, members of the international standards community, and other researchers.

The Financial Computing & Analytics Group is seeking an experienced researcher in a broad area including blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, financial technologies, payment systems, cryptocurrencies, central bank digital currencies (CBDC), crypto currencies, and the digital economy. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a related discipline as well as a suitable track record of research in related areas. Candidates should have experience in distributed systems, protocol design, network security, policy enforcement, formal modelling, and formal verification, as well as a strong background in software engineering. Candidates should also have significant programming experience, including practical experience in the development of proof-of-concept software implementations. Ideally, candidates would also have an appropriate supporting background in system architecture, privacy-enhancing technologies, and fair-exchange protocols.
