The Institute of Materials & Manufacturing is seeking to employ a Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team performing internationally leading research into multi scale and multi physics simulation of CO2 storage.The role is part of an outstanding comprehensive research programme that focuses on the development of advanced technological solutions, through computational fluid – solid simulations, process synthesis & design, modelling, and optimisation, which can have a transformative role in the energy sector in the decades to come.

The Research Fellow will be joining a research group to pursue a multimillion-pound EPSRC-industry founded consortium conducting pioneering research in combined CO2 capture and storage. Your research will be mainly centred on developing an Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) formulation for accurate and efficient modelling of the pressure field resulting from injecting CO2 into a deep saline aquifer using a vertically averaged multiphase flow formulation and coupling it to a Streamline Upwind Petrov-Galerkin/ Finite Element Method/ Finite Difference Method (SUPG-FEM-FDM) to model the evolution of the average saturation of each phase in the aquifer.

The successful candidate should have a PhD in computational mechanics or a closely related discipline with a strong background and experience in numerical simulation of solids and fluids and multi-scale modelling.

This post is offered on a fixed-term basis for 12 months starting in September 2023 or as soon as possible subject to agreement, and will be based in the Institute of Material and Manufacturing at Brunel University London.

Closing date for applications: Monday 17th July 2023
