Location: St Mary’s Campus (Paddington) / from Autumn 2023 White City Campus
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented early-career epidemiologist, with a keen interest in gaining experience in nutritional epidemiology and quantitative evidence synthesis methods, to join the World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF) Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global) team at Imperial College London (ICL). The Programme is generously funded by a long-term commitment of WCRF and has been on-going since 2007.
Our team’s work is at the forefront of systematic evaluations of research evidence on the role of diet, nutrition, anthropometric characteristics and physical activity on cancer prevention and prognosis (for more information on our research see here). We carry out systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses of the published evidence, which are used by an independent International Expert Panel coordinated by WCRF, in the development and revision of diet and lifestyle recommendations for the public and cancer survivors.
The post-holder will be accountable to the Principal Investigators (PIs) of the CUP Global Programme at ICL, Dr Doris Chan and Dr Kostas Tsilidis. They will work with a team of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, nutritionists, a database manager and a project manager, applying their expertise to evaluate and analyse published data on nutritional epidemiology.
Duties and responsibilities
You will be working independently and collaboratively with your fellow team members, to perform literature searches, study selection and data extraction into the CUP Global Programme database. You will work closely with the post-doctoral fellows in the team and the two PIs to summarise and critically appraise the evidence and contribute to the preparation of scientific reports and publications. You will also work with other research partners both within ICL, at WCRF, with other teams collaborating in CUP Global (in Harvard University, Wageningen University, Institut d’Investigació Sanitària Illes Balears), and with international experts in this Programme.
We are looking to appoint a dedicated and detail-oriented early-career researcher with training in epidemiology, nutrition, public health, biostatistics or other related disciplines, and excellent quantitative, analytical and interpretative skills of evidence synthesis data.
You will apply your knowledge and skills to assist in conducting systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses on diet, nutrition, anthropometric characteristics and physical activity on cancer risk and prognosis.
The post is full-time and fixed-term, for 12 months, based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington, and the White City Campus from Autumn 2023. In line with ICL’s guidelines on hybrid working individuals are normally expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite.
For further information on this post or to arrange an informal discussion with the PIs please contact Dr Eduardo Seleiro the CUP Global at ICL team’s Programme Manager ([email protected]).
