About the Role

The Dean for Research role is a pivotal senior leadership position within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, responsible for securing a flourishing and sustainable research environment which can respond with agility to opportunities and challenges of within the sector. Reporting to the Vice-Principal (Health), Professor Sir Mark Caulfield, this role represents the Faculty on research at senior levels within the University The role ensures that the Faculty is firmly integrated into the research life of the University as a whole, providing leadership and strategic oversight of the Faculty’s research activity and for key programmes of work across Queen Mary.

About You

As an established academic, you will have an outstanding global research profile with the potential to offer credible leadership to staff at all levels of the Faculty. An adept strategist, you will have had senior academic leadership experience with the ability to successfully engage and cohere staff around a compelling research vision for the future. You will have a commitment to the University’s values, and will be able to evidence leadership in embedding the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.

About the Faculty

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework 92% of Queen Mary’s research was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry offers international excellence in cardiovascular, inflammation, cancer, genomics and population health research and teaching, and supports clinical service for a population of 2.5 million with unrivalled ethnic diversity in East London and the wider Thames Gateway.  Our research changes lives and working with four NHS Trust partners in East London, we are central to delivering impact on health-related challenges for local and global populations. We are firmly embedded in our East End and global communities through a strategy focused on Better Health for All.

In line with the seniority of the post, this position attracts a competitive salary commensurate with experience.

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. The professorial appointment is made on a full time, indefinite basis: the Dean for Research role is for three years in the first instance with the opportunity for renewal for at least a further 3 years. You will also hold a Professorial Chair in a relevant institute within the Faculty.
