
At the Department of Sociology and Social Work, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Aalborg University, a position as postdoc in labour market sociology within a project on migrant workers’ collectivism in Germany is available from December 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. There may be some flexibility in terms of starting date. The position is available for a period of 14 months.
Job description
The position is part of the project “The formation of worker collectivism among migrant workers in Denmark, Germany and the UK”, led by Bjarke Refslund and funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark.
The project collects comparative data in three countries, Denmark, UK, and Germany on how migrant workers may develop collectivist perceptions, norms and labour market strategies to improve their working life. Moreover, the project investigates what barriers and preconditions may influence this, for instance the migrant workers’ network and their everyday practices. The postdoc will be responsible for the empirical data collection in Germany. The data will mainly be collected through interviews (including vignettes) and ethnographical presence in the relevant contexts.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates with proven experience in industrial relations and labour market studies, in particular within sociology will be prioritised, as will previous experience with conducting qualitative research among labour migrants. Moreover, strong qualifications in qualitive research methodologies are highly prioritised preferably with experience with ethnographic methods, field work among migrant workers or related approaches. The candidate is expected to work independently, but in close dialogue with the PI. The candidate will be required, or willing to learn, to speak German and English.
POST DOCTORAL POSITION
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.
Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University. Appointment at Postdoc level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark.
Only applicants that have received their PhD degree within the last four years from the deadline for applications (October 1st 2022) can be appointed according to IRFD rules.
