Building and Campus: Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Building/Pears Maudsley Centre Denmark Hill Campus

Job description

This role provides a unique and exciting opportunity for an experienced operations manager looking for a new challenge to set up and manage the new Clinical Research Facility in the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People, a new purpose-built centre whose ambition is to accelerate improved mental health prevention and intervention for children. The purpose of the CRF is to enable children of all ages, from babies upwards, to participate in research to identify mechanisms that underpin mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders, and to implement and monitor novel interventions. As the only facility in the UK dedicated to the investigation and treatment of mental health in children and young people, it will be a beacon for novel research and clinical care and will attract national and international collaborations. The CRF will house cutting-edge equipment with a particular focus on brain imaging. Research in the PMC aims to allow children and young people with highly impairing problems, as well as babies and toddlers, to be included in research, and equipment has been selected to be least restrictive and intrusive.

To deliver the research objectives of the PMC, we are looking for a hard-working, innovative and solution-focussed operations manager who enjoys new challenges and wants to work as a team player. Children and young people attending the CRF will often have emotional and behavioural problems and the post-holder will need to work collaboratively with researchers and clinicians to find accommodations that allow them to participate in research studies.

The post-holder will sit on the management board of the PMC and will report to the PMC Director.

The IoPPN at King’s College London and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) are working in partnership and are at the final stages of building the Pears Maudsley Centre, dedicated to children and young people’s mental health, sitting at the heart of the King’s/SLaM Denmark Hill campus. The PMC will be a state-of-the-art hub for mental health research focused on children, adolescents, young adults and their families. The PMC has been designed with input from CYP patients and their families/carers from the outset. The Centre will deliver rapid, relevant findings on the causes of mental health problems; determining which children are most at risk of developing mental ill health and developing effective strategies on how to prevent mental health problems, and how to stop them from getting worse once they appear. It will build the evidence-base for developing personalised multi-modal treatments with avenues for scalability. It will co-locate researchers and clinicians and provide cutting-edge, child-friendly research facilities alongside those for clinical care. The PMC will be the only facility in Europe whose primary focus is on mental disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions affecting CYP.

This post will be offered on a fixed term contract for 5 years
