Mechanical Workshop Technician

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 6.

The research carried out in the department reflects a broad multidisciplinary view of the engineering world.

The Prototype, Development & Fabrication Facility is a multidisciplinary workshop located in the Chadwick building on the UCL Bloomsbury campus. Providing specialist technical support to teaching and research in the department and its offsite facilities. The Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering is searching for an innovative and enterprising person to fill the role of Mechanical Workshop Technician. You will be joining our team of multi-disiplinary technicians in the department’s engineering workshop. The successful candidate will be providing support to Structures, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnics, Concrete Technology, Environmental Engineering, Geomatics and two off site teaching and research facilities at Stratford and Dagenham.

This post is open ended.

The successful candidate will have a recognised apprenticeship in mechanical engineering and/or BTEC/ONC, or City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering, NVQ Level 3/4 or equivalent experience in an engineering workshop environment. Experience of precision manufacturing gained either in a production, prototyping or instrument making setting, and experience of workplace health and safety regulations and procedures in an engineering workshop setting is also essential. Experience of working in a research and development environment would be an advantage.
