Background
City, University of London owes its origins to the Northampton Institute in the 1890s. The School of Science & Technology offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in several traditional areas such as aviation, maritime systems, project management, finance and risk and emerging new areas such as data science, artificial intelligence and fintech.
Research within the school is clustered around research centres in some of the above-mentioned thematic areas. The schools’ strategy is to work closely with the industry to develop professional programs with clear pathways with practice.
Responsibilities
The Department is seeking to appoint an academic at a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer grade to enhance the activities within the financial technology area, infuse new research ideas and develop an internationally recognised research activity supported by a variety of income streams, research contracts and grants. They will undertake teaching in fintech systems, risk management and co-create with the industrial partners new innovative fintech products and services. They will undertake other academic and management duties and play a leading role in the development of the City’s external profile.
Person Specification
The appointed academic will hold a first degree and a PhD in Computer Science (Fintech Focus), Financial Engineering, Fintech, Information Science or a related discipline and will have appropriate membership in a relevant professional body.
They will have a good understanding of modern trends in higher education and the financial systems deployment with a good knowledge of underpinning payment gateways and defi. They will have a relevant track record of external collaboration and high-quality scientific publications.
