
Position overview
The ANU School of Sociology is seeking applications from outstanding scholars in the discipline of sociology to contribute to its research and teaching program. We seek applicants with a demonstrated capacity to contribute to one or more of the following areas: environmental sociology; urban sociology; postcolonial studies and/or sociology of ethnicity; computational sociology; science and technology studies; and social research methods.
The successful applicant will have an outstanding record of or demonstrated potential for excellence in research and publication in sociology, in securing external funding and in delivering innovative and high-quality education. They will be expected to carry out undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, to undertake research relevant to their field of expertise, to contribute to the supervision of Honours and PhD students, and to work collegially with members of the ANU community and represent the discipline of sociology in the public sphere.

Selection criteria
- PhD in Sociology (preferable) or a relevant discipline in the social sciences.
- Demonstrated track record to undertake high quality research and evidence of a well- developed research program in one or more of the fields of study mentioned in the advert.
- Evidence of high quality teaching, including preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials and assessment, as evidenced by good oral and written English communication skills and teaching evaluations.
- Demonstrated ability for securing external research funding, including grants, endowments and consultancies.
- Ability to supervise student research projects at the Honours and PhD levels.
- Capacity to undertake effective administration and leadership at the School and College level.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and interact collegially with a variety of staff and students and the proven ability to promote, develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships both nationally and internationally.
- Demonstrated ability to foster inclusive, respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels.
- A demonstrated high-level of understanding of equal opportunity principles and a commitment to the application of EO policies in a University context.
