About the Role

The Department of English in the School of English and Drama in Queen Mary’s Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks to appoint a full-time (1.0fte) Lecturer in Medieval Literature. This 15-month fixed-term Lectureship is to provide cover for maternity leave, and also to contribute to our general teaching provision where appropriate. The successful applicant will be able to contribute to the development and delivery of team teaching in the medieval period, be able to teach canonical and non-canonical medieval texts and be able to demonstrate that they have an innovative attitude towards the current state of medieval studies. Modules to be taught may include: ‘Literatures in Time’ (level 4), ‘Chaucer’ (level 5) and ‘Heroes and Outlaws in History and Fiction from 1100 to 1600’ (level 6).

About You

You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) in English, or a related field with specialism in an aspect of Medieval literature, and/or a relevant professional qualification and / or equivalent professional experience and must have a growing or established research profile and substantial plans for future research. They will join a Department committed to an interdisciplinary and global approach to Anglophone literary studies, and with significant expertise in medieval and early modern studies. Experience in teaching at undergraduate in large and small group settings is an essential requirement. The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time for 15 months fixed term with an expected start date of 1 October 2022. The starting salary will be Grade 5, spinal point 35, £43,069 per annum pro-rata, inclusive of London Allowance.
