Background
The School of Arts & Social Sciences is an internationally excellent centre of research and learning on the human condition in all its dimensions. It is a large and vibrant School with around 4,200 students and over 300 staff in seven Departments: The School will be embarking on an exciting period of change for the new academic year, creating the School of Communication and Creativity, consisting of Journalism, Performing Arts, Media, Culture and Creative Industries together with a new School of Policy and Global Affairs comprising of Economics, International Politics and Sociology & Criminology.
Launched in 2017, the Department of English is an interdisciplinary environment for the critical analysis, production and dissemination of literature and other cultural texts. The Department offers an innovative, interdisciplinary BA programme in English; MA programmes in English, Creative Writing, Publishing, International Publishing, and Creative Writing and Publishing; an MFA in Creative Writing; and a PhD in English. Our motto, ‘English in the world’, captures the outward-looking focus of our teaching and research. This ethos is reflected in our research, which strives to shift our understanding of literature, creative writing and publishing from around the world, and in our teaching, which seeks to decolonise and re-envision the curriculum as politically informed and socially conscious.
Responsibilities
This part-time post will suit a published writer who is able to fulfil teaching, research and administrative duties appropriate to the position of Lecturer in Creative Writing in creative non-fiction. We are looking for someone with a publication record in book-length creative non-fiction, whether that be life-writing, memoir, narrative non-fiction or other. The successful applicant will contribute to the development and delivery of excellent undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; work as a member of an interdisciplinary team; support and mentor students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and undertake administrative and management activities appropriate to the role level.
