The University of West London (UWL) is one of the top 40 universities in the UK and the top modern university in London according to the influential Guardian University Guide 2021.

We were also named University of the Year for Student Experience in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, being described by the editor as “regularly among the top-performing universities” and proving that “it is possible for a London-based institution to achieve outstanding levels of student satisfaction beyond other universities”.

Over the last few years, we have invested more than £150 million into our campus to create an inspiring social and learning environment for students. The University puts our students at the heart of everything we do: dedicated to providing an excellent student experience delivering positive, life-changing outcomes – a combination of career focused courses and tailored pedagogic care delivered within a supportive community.

The Department

The ExPERT Academy is the University’s academic development centre. Our focus is to build excellence across the institution by influencing the pedagogy, underpinning our courses, and shaping the environment and the curriculum to deliver the highest standards of teaching and learning across the institution. The model we seek to emulate (both online and face-to-face) is underpinned by strategies that promote engagement, value the voice of students, and enable effective and evidence-based approaches to teaching.

The Role

The successful candidate will join a team of academic developers and learning technologists, within the ExPERT Academy. Working with academic and professional services colleagues across the University, and the specific Schools/Colleges allocated, the postholder will support academic staff in developing the use of technology in learning, teaching, and assessment, ensure the levels of expertise across the institution continue to grow and promote and support excellence in teaching both online and in-person.  The University has invested significantly in developing an outstanding online / blended learning approach to learning.

The Person

The postholder will have excellent knowledge of supporting teaching and learning in higher education, and the associated pedagogies. Their approach will be innovative, creative, and focused on students’ needs. They will need to have a detailed, in-depth understanding of technologies used to support learning at UWL, and a sound understanding of learning theories underpinning student learning.
