
The Role
The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the UK’s longest-established specialist providers of legal education. With an alumni network in excess of 71,000, we’ve trained more practising lawyers in the UK than anyone else.
As our student numbers increase and we continue to diversify our programmes and portfolio, we are looking for a Head of Pro Bono (0.8FTE) to lead the geographically spread team.
The role will involve contribution to the strategic direction, ensuring compliance with regulations, as we as managing and motivating the campus based Pro Bono Co-ordinators. Although there may be opportunities to engage with stakeholders participating in or supporting a range of schemes, the role is non-student facing; the focus is on developing the optimal Pro Bono provision for colleagues to deliver.

We are looking for an individual with excellent people management skills and experience of providing a high standard of client care. In addition to Qualification as a solicitor and eligibility to practice as such.
As our Head of Pro Bono, your duties will include:
- Develop, along with senior members of the Employability Service, a plan for Pro Bono provision to ensure world class opportunities for students and to oversee the implementation and delivery of this plan across the many campuses of the University
- Manage and motivate qualified professionals across these multiple ULaw campuses effectively and efficiently
- Put in place procedures to ensure the service is operating in accordance with the regulatory framework appropriate for pro bono provision and ensure that these procedures are followed, appropriately by all staff
We are looking for people who are/have:
- Experience of working in a university/college environment and developing and delivering an effective pro bono programme
- Knowledge of Higher Education and key features from an employability perspective, including TEF, Graduate Outcomes and Access and Participation
- Demonstrative commitment to the provision of pro bono work in general and clinical legal education in particular
- Professional, friendly and egalitarian approach to all colleagues and students regardless of background or level of ability
