About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a Research Technician to join the Bart’s and the London Genome Centre. The Centre is a dynamic central facility providing genetics and genomics expertise to researchers with a huge diversity of interests within Queen Mary, University of London. Projects range from naked mole rat genetics, through the genomics of intensive care, to single cell analysis of tumour progression. We support a variety of technical approaches including single cell analysis (RNAseq and epigenomics), genetics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics. Most recently we have expanded our offering in Spatial genomics and are a certified supplier of Visium services and have recently acquired complimentary Nanostring technology. The post holder will run laboratory experiments as required.

About You

The successful applicant will have a meticulous eye for detail, a knack for rapid troubleshooting, and a proven track record of laboratory work. The appointee will have strong interpersonal skills as interaction with a range of clients and collaborators is a key part of the post. An understanding of genomics is important but extensive training in specific applications will be given. The post holder will have a first or second class degree in a relevant discipline.

About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 400 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a full time, 35hrs per week indefinite appointment with a funding clause, with an expected start date of July 22. The starting salary will be Grade 3, in the range of £28,208 – £34,733 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
