An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Facilities and Safety Officer to join the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The Department has a reputation for excellence in both teaching and research. The department is part of the Faculty of Engineering and resides in a 12 Floor building which houses approximately 1000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 300 staff and is approx. 20,341 m2.
The post holder will be pivotal in supporting the smooth and successful operation of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Departments teaching, research and common spaces. They’ll work closely with and provide day to day assistance to the Facilities and Buildings Projects Manager, as well as become the first point of call for safety enquiries and lab inspections.
The post holder will ensure all department meeting rooms, laboratories, offices and seminar spaces are maintained to the highest possible standards. This will include co-ordinating small refurbishments and upgrades to the space. The post holder will also have a specific responsibility to take a lead in creating a safe working environment in the EEE Department. This will involve regular building inspections, ensuring department signage and internal webpages are kept up to date, manage monthly safety inspections – with associated follow up actions recorded in the department share drive.
The Facilities and Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring furniture and AV set ups to all teaching spaces and meeting rooms are fit for purpose during term times. Room set ups will also need to be managed during busy exam periods and events/conference season. This role will require close collaboration with the Building Management team, Estate Engineering and College contractors as they will need to take responsibility for project managing minor refurbishments and upgrades to department spaces.
The post holder will be a proactive self-starter with a positive mindset; be able to work efficiently and independently, good at problem solving and agile in getting things done. With relevant professional qualification in health and safety, you will have the confidence to interact with staff at all levels and have experience in working in a customer-focused environment.
The post is offered as a full-time, permanent contract and is based in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus).
