An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Evaluation & Reporting Manager at UCL.

Situated in the Office of Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement), UCL’s dynamic new department that is dedicated to supporting people, crossing boundaries and enabling responsible impact – for the greater good, locally, nationally and internationally.

The roleholder will work in a small team facilitating the use of a variety of quantitative information sources relating to UCL’s research, for strategic analytical and planning purposes. The role holder will be a part of the evaluation team, and will provide additional support for, evaluation activities including, not least, the Research Excellence Framework (REF). In the most recent REF, UCL was rated second in the UK for research power (splitting Oxford and Cambridge) and rated 1st in London.

About the role

The postholder will be highly responsive to the evolving landscape of research metrics and information requirements across UCL, maintaining an inward-facing relationship with UCL’s academic leadership, research and professional services communities, delivering data and analyses, developing and implementing new policies and procedures, providing training workshops and related activities for UCL academic and professional staff. The role also has an outward-looking function, interacting with, and providing intelligence about, the funding bodies regarding research information, metrics and analytics.

The postholder will be an active member of UCL’s data community and works with colleagues from across the university to improve data sharing, data flow and associated systems.

This is an open-ended full-time post.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 20% on site.

About you

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience of using of a variety of quantitative information sources and providing statistical analysis and interpretation services related to Research Data. They will be required to develop and implement efficient systems for collecting, storing, and organizing research data and metrics, and in ensuring data accuracy and reliability by regularly auditing and validating data sources.

The Research Evaluation & Reporting Manager plays a crucial role in helping the university understand its research strengths and areas for improvement, facilitating evidence-based decision-making, and enhancing the institution’s research impact and reputation.

Specific responsibilities will include managing our Researchfish submission and providing research data provision including those related to publications metrics, statistical analysis and an interpretation service to UCL staff and other stakeholders, such as commercial suppliers and university consortia.
