ERA Chair – Head of the Food Technology Research Team

Project DRIFT-FOOD, WIDESPREAD-06-2020

We are looking for the ERA Chair holder candidate from both EU and non-EU countries with the capability to compete at the level of ERC Advanced Grants or similar grants.

DESIRED PROFILE OF APPLICANT:

  • Expertise in food science and technology
    • Significant publications as the main author / corresponding author / team leader in major international peer-reviewed multidisciplinary/respective field scientific journals
    • Record of invited speeches at well-established international conferences
  • Holder of PhD title (food science, food technology, food chemistry, biology, agriculture) or its equivalent
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, excellent communication skills
  • Fulfilment of conditions specified in the European Framework for Research Careers for Established researcher at the level of R3 or R4
  • An active researcher with significant research achievements ideally, within the last 10 years in food science and technology, food processing, food chemistry research
    • An international track record of achievements in food science-related publications
    • A track record of innovative research with implications to food technology sphere
  • An exceptional leader with managerial skills, originality and significant research contributions
    • A track record of national and international expert functions
    • A proven record in securing research funding and experience in managing and leading research group
    • A proven creative approach towards interdisciplinary research and leadership.  Mentoring skills and the potential to cooperate with other research groups are also important 

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

  • Run a new food science and technology team within the structure of the Faculty (e.g. senior and junior research staff selection)
  • Set his/her own research program aiming on food technology and food processing taking advantages of the faculty research infrastructure
  • Participate in the development of the scientific community throughout the whole Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, in particular with a wide support of postdocs and PhD students
  • Bring and transfer experience in competing for, coordinating and implementing international grants, thus contributing to the increase of the competitiveness of the institution
  • Optimize the processes in the scientific career development strategy
  • Coordinate food-oriented research teams of the Food Technology Centre 

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE PROVIDED WITH:

  • A full-time position contract (40 months supported by the ERA Chairs grant)
  • An attractive (internationally competitive) salary of up to €90,000 per year
  • Benefits include 25 days of annual leave, flexible working hours, meal vouchers, subsidized meals at CZU campus
  • An opportunity to run and further develop a research team of up to 8 FTEs in total including PhD students (4 FTEs for senior and junior researchers can be financed by the grant). Based on his/her scientific aims leads his/her own interdisciplinary research team which will be supported by the food chemistry, microbiology and nutrition research groups within the Faculty
  • A wide autonomy and independence, opportunity to coordinate food technology research at the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources
  • A full access to the research infrastructure of the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources including GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, AAS, ICP, NMR and more
  • An access to and an opportunity to further develop a newly built Food Processing Training Center consisting of medium scale processing facilities of meat, grains, milk, and of the range of experimental units (fruit processing, beer production, oil refineries) and sensory testing laboratory
  • A substantial budget for training, conference attendance and networking
