Would you like to become part of the solution towards green energy transition, by helping develop advanced numerical models that can best utilize data from wind turbines? The Structural Integrity and Load assessment (SIL) section at DTU Wind and Energy Systems is inviting candidates to apply for a Researcher/Assistant Professor position within the area of data analytics, structural mechanics, loads assessment, digital twins and cyber-physical systems.
Responsibilities and qualifications
You will be part of the SIL team that works on (i) Risk, Reliability Engineering and RAM (reliability, availability, maintainability) analysis, (ii) Probabilistic design, assessment and uncertainty quantification, (iii) Data, Digitalisation, AI/ML and decision support systems (I.e cyber-physical systems), (iv) Materials and monitoring, (v) Service life integrity assessment and end of life scenarios, (vi) Project valuation and Life Cycle Cost modelling and (vii) Wind farm-wide operational strategies.
You are expected to have a solid knowledge in development of digital twin models for structural and mechanical components, and assume a leading role in the research activities leading to improved lifetime assessment for wind turbine structures and main components.
This requires the development of numerical models, integration of monitoring data and integrated decision support systems towards development of autonomous cyber-physical systems. This is done independently as well as in collaboration with the section and the department, in national, EU and industry sponsored projects. Your primary responsibilities will be:
- Collect, process and analyse datasets from operational wind farms, extracting maximum value data fusion and analytics.
- Develop life models capable to quantifying the lifetime of turbine structures and components based on physics models.
- Develop digital twin models for life prediction of selected turbine structures and components through physics-based or data driven models.
- Publish in international journals and presenting at international conferences
- Lead and contribute to grant applications for national and European calls
- Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student of DTU Wind Energy and co-supervising PhD students of the department.
You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.
The following qualifications will be beneficial:
Essential qualifications:
- A background in mechanical, civil or wind turbine engineering with focus on structural dynamics, structural response modelling or data-driven models;
- Experience with probability, data analytics and machine learning applications;
- Experience with scientific programming (Python, MATLAB, or C).
Desired qualifications:
- Documented experience in development of numerical models and digital twin systems for components and systems;
- Experience in mechanics and response modelling;
- Experience with CAD, finite-element and simulations software;
- Track record of participating in research projects, securing research funding and/or potential to lead successful research bids.
As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
