We are seeking our next Deputy Dean to join the Faculty of Science at QUT.
As Deputy Dean, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the Faculty of Science’s strategic direction, facilitate collaborative initiatives, and shape the future of the faculty. Your leadership will be instrumental in delivering outstanding student experiences and fostering impactful research outcomes.

About the Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science nurtures curiosity and real-world innovation to shape the future using science, mathematics, data, and IT. We strive to be the partner of choice for education and research in these disciplines and achieve this through the collective efforts of our innovative and world leading researchers and educators with access to outstanding facilities and infrastructure. The Faculty’s research strengths lie in the areas of data science, human computer interaction, material science, agriculture and biotechnology, synthetic biology, environment and resource management and clean energy technologies.
What you need to succeed
Your leadership in fostering a people-first culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion, combined with a focus on delivering high-quality student experiences, will be critical to your success as Deputy Dean. You’ll need:
- A doctoral qualification or equivalent in a relevant area with proven leadership and achievement at a senior level.
- Proven academic leadership and senior management experience, with demonstrated ability to implement learning and teaching initiatives, ensure high- quality program delivery and student support services.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a multidisciplinary portfolio of research activity, and lead initiatives focused on enabling research performance and impact.
- Strong strategic planning and operational management skills, business acumen and a proven record of budget, resource and risk management at a senior level.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate, consult, negotiate and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the University.
- Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to think creatively, introduce innovation and change and incorporate principles of diversity and inclusivity.
- Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external parties to deliver a program of student engagement activity, identify strategic and business development opportunities partnering with relevant industries, professions or institutions at the local and international levels.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the principles of diversity and inclusion and health and safety.
