The Medical Research Council’s Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) at UCL is one of the UK’s leading centres for clinical research. It conducts national and international clinical trials, meta-analyses and epidemiological studies in cancer and infectious diseases (particularly HIV and TB) and other health care areas. It has also become part of national network of eight regional Hubs for Trials Methodology Research, established by the MRC, to develop new and improved methods for the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials.

The Trial and Study management group within the Unit manages the coordination of the clinical trials in collaboration with scientists from the disease themes and the Data System Management group. The Data Managers at the Unit interact closely with the Statisticians, Clinical project managers, Project leads, Data Managers, Data scientist, programmers and Trials assistants as part of the Trial team.

The Data Manager post will be required to assist the Clinical Trials Managers in the day to day co-ordination of clinical trials, with particular responsibility for data completeness and quality. The main duties of the post include collecting, coding and ensuring trial data is entered in a timely and accurate manner, randomising patients into trials, organising pathology and radiology reviews, dealing with enquiries and visiting participating hospitals to collect data and explain trial procedures.

Successful applicants will have excellent organisational and communication skills as well as good attention to detail. Applicants should have the ability to work as part of a team and independently, using initiative where appropriate.

We have 2 posts available with an initial funding for 12 months in the first instance. We offer the opportunity to work flexibly between our office and home, along with core hours and flexible start/finish times.

These posts would suit an enthusiastic individual with data entry experience and an interest in working on Clinical Trials within Cancer and/or infectious diseases, Successful applicants will have excellent organisational and communication skills as well as good attention to detail. Good numerical skills and database experience essential, with an understanding of Clinical trials methodology and stages in the testing of new products and other interventions desirable.
