About the Role

We are excited to offer this role based within an established Business and Partnerships team that is part of QMUL’s Research Services Directorate. As a new role focused on Studentship contracts with industry partners, there is opportunity to grow and enhance legal support services in this complex area. The primary purpose is to prepare and negotiate studentship agreements as well as supporting other agreement types. The post-holder will provide specialist contract support to internal stakeholders and will introduce and maintain a suite of legal templates of the highest professional standards. The post-holder will ensure all agreements assigned, reduce, or eliminate financial and legal risk but achieve a good commercial position for QMUL.   

The role will be crucial in providing support to Queen Mary’s researchers and Business Development Managers who are responsible for developing and delivering Studentships with industry and Research Councils. Reporting to the Contract Manager, the post-holder will be required to work cooperatively with the wider Professional Services team, including the Doctoral College, to ensure studentship process harmony and high-quality contract management. Studentship pre-award and post-award management of agreements is expected. The post-holder is expected to be on campus for a minimum of three days per week.

About You

The successful candidate for this busy and diverse role, will be a graduate with a relevant post-graduate legal qualification. You will have a proven track record on every aspect of contract management including drafting and execution; providing advice on costing/pricing, compliance, risk management and risk mitigation; scheduling meetings, case management, collecting/reporting data and escalating problematic queries. You will have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize tasks within a busy portfolio of contracts. The ideal candidate will take a pro-active approach to problem solving and risk management, whilst tracking progress and supporting project teams to ensure the deliverability and execution  before ultimate deadlines.

The post is based at Dept W situated between the Mile End and Whitechapel campuses in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), permanent appointment, and is available now. The starting salary will be Grade 5, £42,405.00 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
