The Arndt-Corden Department of Economics (ACDE) works on applied problems in economics with emphasis on Australia, the Asia-Pacific, and global challenges. ACDE’s mission is to carry out economics research at the frontier of knowledge and educate the next generation of researchers and decision makers.
The Opportunity
The Associate Professor (Level D) or Professor (Level E) will be the Rajiv Gandhi Chair of South Asian Economics, Director of the Australia South Asia Research Centre (ASARC), and a member of the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics. The Rajiv Gandhi Chair of South Asian Economics will make significant contributions in research, teaching, and service activities in the field of economics with a particular focus on the South Asian economy. The appointee will work with colleagues within the Department, School, College, and wider University community to deliver strategic outcomes in education and research and enhance the university’s position both nationally and globally.
The appointment as a Level D or E academic is continuing. The roles of Rajiv Gandhi Chair of South Asian Economics and Director of ASARC are for an initial 5-year term (potentially extendable). As Director of ASARC, access to dedicated funds will be available for research and engagement purposes, administered by the ASARC Board.
The countries of South Asia are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an academic who wants to enhance the University’s position in economic research on South Asian economies, and who already has experience and relationships with countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and/or Sri Lanka. The successful candidate will have strong record of contributions to research, education, outreach, and leadership.
