JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry to help facilitate education, research and innovation in an interdisciplinary setting.

As an Assistant Professor, you will be involved in teaching of organic chemistry courses in several bachelor programmes. Furthermore, you will participate in existing research lines on the organic synthesis of molecules and materials for (bio)medical and sensing applications. You will also help to develop new research lines within the faculty and should therefore engage in collaborations with other research clusters at Maastricht University, other universities and companies.

More specifically, you will: 

  • Teach courses at the bachelor level (in English);
  • Supervise students at all levels (BSc, MSc, PhD);
  • Support the design of undergraduate and (post)graduate courses;
  • Apply for research funding on a national and European level. 

REQUIREMENTS

Our ideal candidate has: 

  • A PhD degree in organic chemistry or a strongly related field;
  • Ideally, at least 2 year working experience in an academic environment post-PhD;
  • A track record in research and teaching;
  • Experience with applying for research funding;
  • Experience with guiding Bachelor/Master/PhD students;
  • English language fluency;
  • A personality characterized by team spirit, ambition, and vision;
  • A keenness to build bridges between disciplines and to work in an interdisciplinary, international environment. 

We will help you develop yourself as a teacher and obtain a University Teaching Qualification (BKO, for basiskwalificatie onderwijs: an official certification for teaching at Dutch universities) through a training programme, in case you are not yet certified. 

Candidates who do not speak Dutch will be supported in achieving an intermediate level proficiency in a reasonable timeframe. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Fixed-term contract: 18 months. 

As an Assistant Professorat the Faculty of Science and Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you: 

  • Good employment conditions. The position is in grated in scale 11 according to the UFO profile Assistant Professor function level 2 with corresponding salary ranging from €3,974 to €5,439 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus are applicable.
  • An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be converted into an indefinite contract.
  • As a holder of the ‘Family-friendly University’ quality mark, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
