We are looking for an Assistant Head for the Westminster School of Arts (WSA) to support developments in Music. WSA at the University of Westminster is looking for a strategic leader to join our successful School, working to expand our Music provision across all levels, and supporting the development of creative Music teaching, research and knowledge exchange. Music is a key unit within the School, with a vibrant portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes delivered to over 300 students in areas related to Music business management and enterprise, performance and production. It is a highly regarded and high performing area within the School, with strategic ambitions for growth that the successful candidate will play a leading part in delivering.
The successful applicant will play a key role in the School’s leadership team, working closely with the Head of School to shape and implement School strategy, ensure our portfolio is innovative and stimulating, support and manage course teams, and help to maintain and extend our commitment to practice-based creativity across the subjects in our portfolio. You must be able to ensure an outstanding student experience as well as support events and activities commensurate with our profile. You will also have the opportunity to maintain your own teaching and research, including course leadership. This is an ideal post for an experienced practitioner/academic who wants to develop their strategic abilities and develop the societal impact of our activities.
We deliver teaching that is research-informed, practice-led and based on action learning. We teach a diverse student population that requires support on issues around student achievement, the attractiveness of our offer to a wide catchment and curriculum content that reflects a pluralistic and international perspective. We currently offer five undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Music areas related to audio production, performance and enterprise, business management and live music management, with views to expanding the portfolio based on new market opportunities. The new Assistant Head of School will be responsible for work across these anchor undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, dependent on the background and experience of the successful candidate. The School also has relationships with external providers, ranging from foundation to postgraduate validated courses in the UK and abroad, part of a dynamic portfolio of arts based subjects in the School.
